You can use most of NewStart Canada without an account, and that use stays on your phone. Some features need to contact our server to work. We do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
You do not need an account to use NewStart Canada. If you do not sign in, the following is saved only on your own device and we cannot see it:

Signing in is optional. It lets your checklist progress follow you to a new phone. If you create an account, we store the following on our server:
We use this only to run your account and sync your progress. We do not use it for advertising.
You can sign in using Google or Apple instead of a password. When you do, that company confirms your identity to us and sends us your email address and name, which we store as described above. We never see your Google or Apple password.
The app can show local weather. If you allow location access, your phone's coordinates are sent to our server, which passes them to OpenWeatherMap to look up the current conditions. We do not save your location or build any history of where you have been. If you do not allow location access, the app uses a default Canadian city instead, and the weather still works.
Two screens offer a "find nearby" button for settlement services and Service Canada offices. Tapping it opens Google Maps with your current location so it can show what is close to you. That handoff is covered by Google's privacy policy, not ours, and we do not receive anything back from it.
You can turn location access off at any time in your phone's settings.
If you use the AI assistant, the question you type and your chosen language are sent to our server, which passes them to an AI provider (Anthropic) to write an answer. Please do not type sensitive personal details, such as your SIN, passport number, or banking information, into the assistant.
We do not save your conversations on our server, and they are not linked to your account.
When you open a topic, search, or check immigration information, the app asks our server for that content. These requests are not tied to your identity when you are not signed in.
This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics so we can see how many people visit. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and does not follow you to other websites. It reports only totals, such as how many pages were viewed.
We share information only with the service providers needed to make the app work:

You can delete your account from inside the app, in Settings. This removes your account and the information we hold about it from our server. You can also email us and we will delete it for you. Step-by-step instructions are on our account deletion page.
If you never created an account, there is nothing for us to delete. Removing the app clears what was saved on your device.
NewStart Canada is meant for adults settling in Canada. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
If we change how the app handles your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
